Justin’s and host Yeri were both responsive and helpful. Yeri and Tatiana are extremely knowledgable about the area and super friendly. They helped orchestrate several things for us to do, including hikes, horseback riding and a waterfall adventure. Yeri loves the area and has a passion for the animals and vegetation there. They also prepared a meal for us and it was fantastic. There is no cell service there but the WiFi was reliable at the home. The Scarlet house is the perfect place to stay for being in nature and near Corcovado National Park. The house and property are beautiful and managers were very kind and informative. I wish there was another star or two to rate the Scarlet House. We stayed a week, away from the world, surrounded by Osa’s magnificent nature, by light and life, by the darkest star filled sky, by birdsong and Howlers and crashing waves. OMG i loved my stay here. There is plenty of room and an extremely beautiful yard. If you like birding, it’s fantastic. Plus, there is a ton to do in the area. I don’t really know anything about Justin, but the house caretaker Yeri was a kind and gracious host. I booked 4 tours with him and learned so, so much. Even when we were exhausted he was still looking for birds to show us. I would go back in a heartbeat. The area is first class, and very wild. It’s very hot and humid, and there are no amenities nearby, so even while the house and Yeri were great, it’s not for for typical Americans or other people who like to be waited on and have everything “just right”. That’s part of the experience. If you want predictable things, there’s always Mexico. This is not to insinuate that it was difficult, but it’s not for everyone. Our stay at the Scarlet House is a memory to go down in the books! Coming from California, we are not the most experienced at being in the jungle. My son learned the first night to check for scorpions after getting stung! The sounds of the jungle on the first night was scary for my daughter. My husband and I were a bit overwhelmed by the heat and humidity. But by the next day, everything started to change as we saw the magic of the land. The abundance of wildlife just on the property was unbelievable. Tatiana cooked all of our meals for us and they were delicious! Yeri took my husband and son fishing and kayaking on the lagoon and Tati cooked the fish for us. Yeri also guided us on a hike to Corcovado National Park and a night walk. Yeri loves and respects the land and has a wealth of knowledge. During our trip we saw: coati, macaws, various birds, tree frogs, poisonous dart frogs, tapir, various monkeys, a momma monkey with a 1 week old baby, anteaters, caimin, crocodiles and more.

Yeri and his girlfriend were a great host. He replies quickly, always thinks along and most importantly, knows everything there is to know of the Peninsula de Osa. He is a lovely person and a great guide! His wife is a perfect cook. Her dishes are perfect and she serves them with great attention. Op deze locatie leef je off the grid. Vanuit je keuken lijkt het of je naar een jungle film kijkt in een I-max theater. Om er te komen maak je een mooie autotocht van 1 1/2 uur door de jungle. Vergeet geen boodschappen te doen in Puerto Jiminez. Er is in Carate niks te koop.Wel kun je genieten van de kookkunsten van Tati.Maak mooie tochten met Yeri, hij weet alle dieren in de jungle te vinden. Ook de Tapir hebben we ontmoet. Het huis is heel bijzonder, zonder ramen, voordeur en gordijnen. Je leeft in de natuur met alleen gaas ertussen. Dus er piepen soms wel insecten naar binnen, dus niet schrikken! Het is in de jungle heel vochtig en warm, dus het zou fijn zijn als er 1 keer halverwege de week schoonmaak zou zijn.We waren met 5 volwassen, op zich genoeg ruimte, grote slaapkamers, maar veel te weinig stoelen. Op de veranda stonden twee plastic stoeltjes, waarvan er 1 doorbrak. In de woonkamer is er 1 bank met 1 stoel. Om te eten zit je aan de bar met 6 barkrukken.

The road has been improved since earlier reviews. Our family of 6 (four kids under 9) made it fine during the dry season in a 4x2 for 10 days. We didn’t do any of the meals or tours however we had great interactions with everyone associated with the Scarlet House. We spent every day at the beach and self guided exploring. The tide can be strong but low tide was great for our family. We loved watching the birds, monkeys, animals, and the awesome sunsets. The heat and humidity can be intense but that became part of our experience and we enjoyed it! We also appreciated the cleaner that came for our longer stay. We hope to be back again!
